’49ers set to make first Rangers howler’ as Cyriel Dessers agreement reached

Cyriel Dessers’ future as a Rangers player has been up in the air since the end of the season.

Competing with Celtic for domestic silverware will be the aim for Rangers next season, though to achieve that, they are going to have to be rather meticulous when it comes to the decisions that they make this summer.

With Russell Martin in post at Ibrox, the only thing on the minds of Rangers chiefs will be recruitment, and that goes for players coming in and going out.

While a whole host of players have been linked with a move to Glasgow, including Max Aarons from Bournemouth, several have been mooted for an exit, and that seems to be the fate that awaits Dessers in the coming days.

Dessers exit could force regret at Rangers

Dessers is very much the personified version of Marmite; you either love him or hate him.

However, had it not been for his goals last season, Rangers would have struggled significantly more than they actually did.

Despite that, his exit from Ibrox still seems nailed on, with it claimed that the forward has agreed on a three-year contract at AEK Athens, with the two sides still negotiating over the fee.

It is believed that the 49ers want £5million to sanction his exit, though at that price, Rangers would find it ridiculously hard to replace his goals and influence in the team.

If an exit does happen, and a fee around that region is finalised, it would surely represent bad business for the Gers, who would then be tasked with finding another clinical goalscorer.

Rangers need to get recruitment right this summer

The Light Blues simply cannot afford another trophyless campaign, though without the right planning and recruitment this summer, it could be on the cards.

Martin needs to be backed, and if players like Dessers are to leave, they need to be replaced with others capable of matching their output and more.

These next few weeks are going to be crucial for the Gers, and they will be afforded no margin for error.
