Thelwell gets green light for Rangers to strike Matija Frigan transfer immediately
Rangers have been linked with a move for Matija Frigan this summer as Russell Martin looks for a Cyriel Dessers replacement at Ibrox.
Dessers looks like he is heading towards the exit door with AEK Athens interested in signing Rangers‘ top scorer from last season.
Meanwhile, as Martin looks to put his stamp on things at Ibrox, he is targeting the 22-year-old who currently plays for Westerlo.
With Kevin Thelwell yet to oversee a signing since he arrived at Ibrox, he may have just been given the green light to secure a deal for Frigan.

Frigan breaks silence on links to Rangers
Rangers return for pre-season training on Monday (23 June) and Martin will surely get going with his summer transfer business once he has properly assessed those already at Ibrox.
That being said, it seems incredibly likely that Dessers could finally be leaving Glasgow ahead of the new season, despite another strong season in the Scottish Premiership.
If Rangers can cash in and make a profit on the Nigerian at this stage, it allows the opportunity to reinvest that cash into younger options.
Frigan netted 13 goals in the Belgian Pro-League last season and at 22, is surely someone on his way up in the game.
It seems he is up for a move to Ibrox himself, too, with Thelwell being given a green light to sign him.
As shared by the Scottish Sun (22 June), Frigan addressed the links and said: “Rangers? That style of league would suit me. I think I’m a player for that type of football.
“I know about the interest from clubs, it’s good to hear and read such things, but we’ll see. Nothing has been decided yet.
“Things are in the hands of my agent, and when there is something more concrete, we will know. We will weigh everything up and choose the best option. I have a good season behind me, some clubs are contacting me, but we will see what is best.
“Nothing is ruled out, and we will see what happens in this transfer window.
“I’m in no hurry, and there’s plenty of interest in me. Of course, that makes every player happy.”

Thelwell can deliver first signing for Martin
When comparing new striker targets to Dessers, it’s going to be hard to find someone who matches up on numbers alone.
Player | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Dessers | 35 | 18 | 2 |
Frigan | 39 | 13 | 2 |
However, Frigan certainly shows signs of being a player who will only get better when allowed to grow, and Martin could provide that opportunity.
Given the forward seems to like the idea of a move to Ibrox and is clearly ambitious, this could be an ideal first signing under the new Rangers regime of Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers.
If Frigan is someone wanted at Rangers, there is no excuse for Thelwell not to pounce on this one.
