Rangers serious about Luka Jelenic as mega money transfer on cards

Rangers could soon make an approach for NK Osijek centre-back Luka Jelenic this summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old Croatian defender was a regular starter for the Whites and Blues as they finished seventh in SuperSport HNL.

Russell Martin will be concerned about John Souttar after he underwent surgery ahead of the crucial Champions League second-round qualifier against Panathinaikos.

Osijek expect serious money as Rangers want Jelenic transfer

Osijek expect to make “serious” profit on Jelenic amid interest from the Gers, according to 24sata.

The news outlet reports (June 20) that the Light Blues are seriously considering signing the 25-year-old, who cost the Croatian outfit around £685,000 last summer.

It’s been claimed that the defender is a target for the Glaswegian outfit at Ibrox, and an offer could be made very soon.

Portuguese outfit Vitoria also have the centre-back on their radar, and Martin will hope Kevin Thelwell can work quickly to get a deal over the line.

Thelwell must sign new defenders for Martin at Ibrox

Robin Propper could return to FC Twente in the coming weeks, leaving the Gers with a lack of options in their backline.

The Light Blues struggled defensively last season as Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson failed to bring stability despite using different systems.

Souttar’s consistent fitness issues in the previous campaign didn’t help, and it remains to be seen what shape he’s in after his surgery.

Rangers have Dujon Sterling in their ranks, but the Englishman has spent most of his time on the sidelines in recent months.

Clinton Nsiala showed promise at the Gers under Clement, but Ferguson didn’t seem to trust the youngster, leading to his minutes dwindling.

The Light Blues don’t seem to have a lot of quality options in defence ahead of next season, and Jelenic’s transfer makes perfect sense.

While fans will question whether the 25-year-old can adapt to Scottish football, he has proven his qualities in Croatia.

Thelwell’s astute recruitment was evident at Everton, and the Ibrox faithful will hope he can do the same in G51 this summer.
