Chris Sutton has ‘Celtic transfer worry’ as Rangers news breaks on Sky Sports

The Scottish Premiership fixtures for the 2025/26 campaign have now been released.

Rangers fans will travel to Motherwell for the first game week as Russell Martin manages his first competitive game at the Gers.

There is a hope that the manager can lead the Ibrox club to Scottish Premiership glory, with Celtic dominating domestic football for years.

However, Chris Sutton has a growing concern about Rangers’ Old Firm rivals, which Martin might be able to take advantage of.

Sutton concerned about ‘lack of Celtic signings’

Since the 49ers came into Rangers, the Glaswegians have been linked to multiple top players.

Martin is in dire need of reinforcements after the Gers finished 15 points behind Celtic last season.

As a result, Rangers have been linked to players such as Conor Coady as they aim to bring in experienced signings this summer.

However, their Old Firm rivals Celtic, have had few links and only one signing to date, which has concerned Sutton.

When discussing the recent fixture release, the pundit made his transfer worries clear as he took the opportunity to swipe at Rangers for their poor performance last season.

“Celtic have been the dominant force for a long time in Scotland,” he told Sky Sports News (20 June)

“The truth is, last season it wasn’t really a title race at all, albeit Rangers had the better of Celtic in the head-to-head.

“Celtic will go into this season as strong favourites to win it again.

“I’m a little bit concerned that Celtic haven’t got more players in. It is important when a team has been as strong as Celtic have been that you add to the squad and freshen things up.

“But I’m sure there will be a couple more moves in the pipeline and players brought into the team.”

Rangers have to get off to a good start in the Scottish Premiership

Now that the fixture list has been released, Rangers have a solid start to their campaign.

This is when the Gers have to take advantage and use these matches to build momentum.

This is especially important given the fact that Celtic could struggle given their lack of movement in the transfer market.

Rangers’ opening fixtures are subject to change

If Rangers bring in their transfer targets before the season has begun, Martin has no excuse not to at least be close to his Old Firm rivals after the first 11 matches.

Hopefully, the Glaswegians will show the rest of Scotland that they are here to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season and not just surrender it to Celtic yet again.
