David Edgar slams ‘Disgraceful’ development in Rangers-SFA controversy

Heart and Hand have slammed an “absolutely disgraceful” decision made by the SFA regarding Rangers.

The Ibrox outfit have been fined £3,000 by the Scottish FA for breaching Disciplinary Rule 38 after John Brown’s emotional “corrupt” remark about a refereeing decision during commentary in the Hibernian clash in May.

Gers argue the sanction is inconsistent, citing similar unpunished incidents by other clubs, and questioned the FA’s enforcement clarity.

David Edgar wants Bomber to get the first game of next season

Brown, who is nicknamed “Bomber”, is a fan favourite at Ibrox and his comments during the game were not an official club statement.

Gers rightly are now planning to seek answers from the FA’s leadership on regulatory fairness, highlighting that spontaneous, unscripted comments shouldn’t trigger formal penalties.

The club are emphasising the need for consistent, transparent policies to ensure equal treatment across all clubs, warning that selective enforcement undermines confidence in the disciplinary process.

Edgar, who is the Heart and Hand Podcast host, took to X to express his frustration at the SFA decision.

He wrote: “Absolutely disgraceful decision. RTV better make sure Bomber does first game of season.”

Rangers have every right to be livid with the decision

Rangers‘ statement is absolutely correct as it exposes the SFA’s inconsistent enforcement of Disciplinary Rule 38, which unfairly penalises spontaneous commentary while ignoring similar or worse remarks from other clubs’ official channels.

Brown’s emotional remark during live coverage of a refereeing error was not an official club stance, yet it triggered a £3,000 fine, despite Gers’ swift correction.

The club’s evidence of unpunished incidents elsewhere highlights a lack of transparency and fairness in the FA’s processes.

Rangers have every right to be upset, as this selective ruling undermines confidence in the regulatory system, sets an unclear precedent for managing live broadcasts, and exposes all clubs to arbitrary sanctions without consistent guidance or equal treatment.
