Oscar Cortes ‘returns to Auchenhowie early’ after multi-million Rangers news

Oscar Cortes had a dreadful season at Rangers in the 2024/25 campaign.

The winger joined Ibrox initially on loan from Lens in February 2024 after showing plenty of potential in France.

However, Cortes has struggled with injuries at Rangers and has only managed to play 18 times for the Gers in 18 months.

Nevertheless, Russell Martin’s side had an obligation to sign the Colombian international this summer, with many baffled by the agreed £4.5million fee.

Cortes arrives back early for Rangers’ pre-season

With Cortes now fit again for Rangers, expectations will be high for the 21-year-old this season.

According to the Rangers Review (17 June), the winger is already preparing for the upcoming campaign by arriving back at Auchenhowie early, ready for pre-season.

The decision to extend Cortes Rangers’ loan and add a £4.5 million obligation to buy last summer was questioned after an injury-hit first few months.

However, it is understood that many believe the 21-year-old to simply be unlucky after he previously arrived in Scotland with a clean injury record.

With Rangers still not knowing how good he is or how good he can be, this season will be massive for Cortes to prove himself, with the rest of the squad back next week.

2025/26 campaign will be make or break for Cortes at Rangers

After barely featuring for Rangers for 18 months, this campaign is likely to be make or break for Cortes.

Another injury-hit season will see many of the Ibrox fanbase give up on the 21-year-old after his recent struggles for fitness.

On top of this, if Cortes massively underperforms on the pitch, he could soon find himself omitted from the squad and sent out on loan or even sold again, with Rangers having no room for error if they are to challenge for the title.

Hopefully, the winger can quickly prove himself in pre-season and show Martin how valuable an asset he can be.
