Dessers ‘put under pressure’ as likely new Rangers exit fee update shared

Rangers could sell several first-team players, and Cyriel Dessers is one who is likely to depart this summer.

Dessers finished as the top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership, but he was frustrating for a lot of the season as his finishing let him down in key moments.

Rangers need to rebuild their squad, and Dessers is not deemed reliable enough to keep amid interest from other clubs.

The 30-year-old is in talks over an exit, but there is yet to be an agreement over a transfer as Rangers have set an asking price for the striker.

Rangers could negotiate over Dessers fee

Greek side AEK Athens are in talks with Rangers over Dessers, but they are currently unwilling to meet his asking price.

Greek journalist Kostas Ketsetzoglou has now provided an update to bwinSPORT FM 94.6, as per Sport Dog (17 June), reporting that AEK are keen on signing Dessers, but they are unwilling to meet the asking price of £4million.

Dessers is now “under pressure” to ensure that an agreement is found, given his desire to complete the move, but Rangers are expected to happy to find a middle ground over the fee.

AEK have set themselves a limit over how much they would pay for Dessers, but negotiations will continue and both sides will hope to reach an agreement.

Rangers need to replace Dessers

Although he was frustrating at times, Dessers did provide a lot of output in front of goal, with 18 strikes in 35 league games.

Dessers will need to be replaced when he leaves, and Rangers cannot afford to make a mistake over this striker signing.

Russell Martin will need a reliable goalscorer if he is to succeed at Rangers, but if Dessers’ replacement struggles, there will be an issue as there is no other experienced striker in the squad as it stands.

Dessers has scored 51 goals in 109 games for Rangers, but fans will hope that his successor can be more clinical as a central striker.

The Dutchman was criticised for his finishing ability, and often needs several chances in games before he eventually scores, and if Rangers can earn most of their money back on him, they will be satisfied with his sale.
