49ers masterclass as Russell Martin set for double new Rangers transfer

Rangers are not messing around as they look set to mark Russell Martin’s recent appointment with two new signings.

Martin has been at the helm of the Gers for just a couple of weeks and plans to utilise his English football connections to secure deals at Ibrox.

Lyall Cameron will join the Ibrox club at the start of July, but the deal to sign him from Dundee was agreed some time ago.

Now, the 49ers are on the brink of announcing a double signing and are bound to have beaten several clubs to the signatures.

Rangers close in on double transfer deal for English stars

Martin will receive a cash injection of £20million in the transfer market as the 49ers aim to bolster the Englishman’s squad.

That figure might not sound like an awful lot, but in Scottish football, it will stretch a lot further than Martin would have been used to in England.

However, the Bears must still be savvy with how they spend their money and utilise the loan and free transfer markets.

Indeed, the first two signings of the Martin era will come at no initial cost in the form of Max Aarons and Kwame Poku, according to the Scottish Sun (16 June).

AFC Bournemouth man Aarons will likely join the Ibrox club on loan and provide competition for James Tavernier.

The full-back has dropped down the pecking order at the Vitality Stadium and spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia, where he made just four league appearances.

As for Poku, he is set to join the Glasgow outfit from Peterborough United when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Poku enjoyed a stellar season in League One, notching 20 goal contributions, and has thus been in demand this summer.

The 23-year-old had admirers from the top two divisions in English football, with Sunderland and Birmingham City linked, but the Bears appear to have come out on top.

Aarons and Poku two smart signings for the Gers

The deals to bring Aarons and Poku to Ibrox mark a superb start to Rangers’ foray into the transfer market.

Aarons is a player who has been around for some time and already has just under 100 Premier League appearances to his name.

While he might have fallen out of favour at Bournemouth, he has what it takes to make his mark in Scotland.

As for Poku, he clearly has ability, and it is difficult to know just how high his ceiling is, which is the ultimate compliment.

The pair will add fierce competition to the Gers’ squad, and Martin must now work on getting the best out of them.
