Rangers face FIFA intervention as club chief speaks out on possible transfer
Rangers have previously faced FIFA intervention for signings in the past.
When the Gers signed Joe Aribo from Charlton Athletic in 2019, the Glasgow club were ordered to pay £300k to the London side, despite him joining as a free agent.
However, the midfielder turned out to be a bargain as he helped Rangers win the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.
The 28-year-old then departed for Southampton in a potential transfer worth up to £10million.
Now, Rangers could repeat this feat as Russell Martin looks to add new players to his squad.

Rangers would need to pay Peterborough compensation to sign Kwame Poku
Rangers are in dire need of reinforcements this summer after the Gers have overseen multiple departures.
Stars such as Vaclav Cerny have now left Rangers as the winger returned to his parent club Wolfsburg.
As a result, Martin is looking for a potential replacement, and the Scottish Daily Mail (15 June, page 62), claims that the Gers want to sign Kwame Poku.
The midfielder is out of contract this summer after impressing at Peterborough United in League One.
The 23-year-old has played nearly 150 times for the Posh and won back-to-back EFL Trophies.
Poku was previously valued at £10m by Peterborough but could now leave the League One club for a minimal fee this summer as his contract expires.
However, the Posh could still receive compensation if Rangers choose to sign the midfielder, with FIFA to determine how much the Gers will have to pay if a settlement is not first reached by the two clubs.
Martin’s side also faces competition for the youngster, with 26 clubs currently speaking to the 23-year-old.
Peterborough chief Barry Fry is quoted as saying: “He’s such an exciting player. Wherever he goes, he’ll be a fan favourite.
“We had lots of offers for him we’ve turned down because we wanted to get promotion. Now he has the choice.
“I’ve had loads of clubs from Portugal, Belgium and Germany on about hi mas well as clubs in England.
“I was asking clubs for £5m and £5m in add-ons when they were interested previously.”
Asked about likely compensation from any British clubs, Fry added: “Yeah, we’d get some from FIFA but it wouldn’t be ideal. It would be FIFA working out what we paid for him and what offers we’ve had.”

Rangers need to go all out to convince Poku to move to Ibrox
Poku would be a sensational signing at Rangers if Martin to get the deal over the line.
The midfielder can both score and create goals despite being early in his career.

Throughout the 2024/25 campaign, Poku proved that he is ready to make the next step up in his career, and he would easily get into Rangers’ starting XI.
Hopefully, Martin goes all out to convince the 23-year-old to join Ibrox in order to get the deal over the line.
