Cavenagh and 49ers ‘set for Rangers game-changer’ as £18m deal mooted
Rangers are looking forward to a bright new future under the leadership of the 49ers consortium.
The consortium, led by healthcare tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, have made some promising statements about how they plan to run the football club.
And these plans could come to fruition shortly with the upcoming sale of a first-team player for potentially in the region of £18million.

Nicolas Raskin sale tipped to be a game-changer for Rangers
The sale of Nicolas Raskin at Rangers has been rumoured for most of this summer so far.
The Belgian made 45 appearances for Rangers this past season, contributing with five goals and 11 assists, but it’s believed his sale could provide enough money to revolutionise the rest of the Rangers squad.
Stevie Clifford, esteemed journalist and Rangers fan, believes Rangers could expect something between £15-18m for the midfielder.
In a post on the Rangers Review blog (15 June), he said: “If the Belgian is sold, it must be on Rangers’ terms and a serious fee should be commanded with a proper replacement lined up.
“He’s an international and a central figure in what comes next. £15–18million would start the conversation in my opinion.”

Rangers fans should embrace a more professional transfer strategy
Raskin has been one of the more exciting players to don the Rangers jersey in recent times.
It will hurt fans to lose him, even for a significant fee. Raskin has been linked with a move to Fiorentina, among other clubs.
Appearances | Minutes Played | Goals | Assists |
45 | 3589 | 5 | 11 |
However, Clifford is right to say that the club needs to adopt a more intelligent transfer strategy.
A £18million transfer fee could long way to building a squad that’s capable of competing with Celtic for the SPL title. Indeed, spending that cash on new players would very much be a game-changer.
The sale of Cyriel Dessers could be categorised similarly. He has been a reliable goalscorer, but selling him at the right time will help prepare the club for a brighter future.
Fans will need to hope that the appointment of Russell Martin also turns out to be a stroke of genius. Martin will of course play a key role in spending the money generated by these sales.
The quality of these replacements that will ultimately reveal whether Rangers were right to sell their star players.
