‘Andrew Cavenagh to agree Cyriel Dessers exit with multi-million Rangers profit’

Cyriel Dessers has been heavily linked with an exit from Rangers this summer, with two years remaining on his contract.

Although the 30-year-old finished the season as the Scottish Premiership top scorer at Ibrox, there have been plenty of suggestions that his future could lie elsewhere.

AEK Athens are pushing to complete a deal already, although Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers have been warned not to take the first offer that comes along.

Scott McDermott offers verdict on Dessers at Rangers

After joining Rangers for a fee of £4.5million, Dessers has certainly contributed plenty to Rangers in the final third.

Therefore, as Russell Martin looks to hit the ground running with the Gers in the Scottish Premiership, having a proven striker could be beneficial.

That being said, the new manager is also likely to turn to young talent such as Hamza Igamane in the hope of bringing through the new generation at Ibrox.

With interest from elsewhere too, it now looks as though an exit could be edging closer for Dessers.

AEK Athens, who were already interested in his services, have now verbally agreed on a deal to sign him.

Scott McDermott has urged the Gers only to cash in if the price on the table is right, though, suggesting he could still have a part to play at Ibrox.

Writing in the Daily Record (14 June), he said: “Only if the price is right.

“I’d keep Dessers to be second-choice striker at Ibrox because of his excellent goal return.

“But he’s 30 years old and is a high earner, so if Rangers can make a profit on him with a sale of around £4million, they have to consider it.”

Rangers to push higher for Dessers

While Dessers may be past his best levels, Rangers should be looking to make a profit on what they initially paid for the striker.

Although he may be frustrating, missing plenty of chances that he should score, the fact that he was still the top scorer at Ibrox this term does highlight that he can still do the job required.

Naturally, the Gers have to be looking towards the future now and Martin is much more likely to use mobile youngsters in his way of playing.

However, with a contract running until 2027, there is no pressure on the Glasgow outfit to cash in before their own conditions are met this summer.

Therefore, Rangers should be pushing to achieve their valuation of £5m for Dessers, a proven goalscorer.
