‘Jack Butland next out of Rangers’ as exit deal verbally agreed away from Ibrox

Jack Butland could be facing the exit door at Rangers once the transfer window opens.

The ex-England international found himself on the bench in the final weeks of the season as Liam Kelly came in to take the number one shirt.

This didn’t come as a surprise to many, with Barry Ferguson not taking any risk as the 32-year-old continued to make costly mistakes.

Now, Butland may be on his way out of Govan in the summer, which may have taken a step closer after an agreement emerged elsewhere.

Butland egdes towards Rangers departure

There is no doubt that on his day, the former Stoke City man is at a standard arguably better than the Light Blues.

This has seen him so nearly earn a call-up to the England squad, but the snub from Gareth Southgate appears to have knocked the keeper’s confidence.

As a result, a clean break and a move away from G51 could prove to be the best option for the shot-stopper moving into the window.

It is clear that the Gers are willing to sanction sales in the coming weeks and months after the appointment of Russell Martin as head coach.

This has been showcased by Cyriel Dessers’ potential exit from Rangers after a £1.5million wage agreement was reached with AEK Athens ahead of a summer transfer [Daily Record, 13 June].

Now the Greek outfit are striving to see eye to eye with the Govan club over a fee before allowing the Nigeria international to leave.

With this deal seemingly moving quickly, there is every chance that Butland could soon follow the striker out of the door and be the next sale on the table.

Butland to follow Dessers out of Rangers

It will certainly be interesting to see what vision Martin has for the Light Blues after taking over as the first permanent head coach since Philippe Clement.

The Belgian always managed to get the best out of Butland, but it is fair to say that Ferguson failed to do so throughout his interim stage as boss.

Although the former Southampton boss may be able to do that, it could make better sense for the keeper’s career to find a new challenge elsewhere.

If Dessers is being hounded out despite 51 goals in two years, the Englishman can be let go after 39 clean sheets and a number of amazing saves.
