Rangers show David Beckham how it’s done with new Ibrox signing all but done

Rangers are within touching distance of adding to their squad ahead of next season.

The Ibrox side are expected to undergo plenty of change following the appointment of Russell Martin, with the former Southampton and Swansea City boss likely to try and implement his free-flowing, expansive style of football at the club.

Martin will immediately be under pressure to work towards ending Celtic’s dominance of the Scottish Premiership, and bolstering Rangers’ options will be crucial to any hope of closing the gap next term.

The Govan outift are already making decisive moves in the transfer market, just weeks after the 2024/25 campaign has concluded.

Rangers have shown David Beckham how it’s done with Mulligan agreement

Rangers have moved quickly to get themselves extremely close to securing a deal for one of Scottish football’s brightest young prospects at the moment.

Dundee midfielder Josh Mulligan is reportedly undergoing a medical at Ibrox ahead of a potential move to the Light Blues.

Rangers’ interest in Mulligan has been known for some time, but they have progressed quickly and are set to announce the starlet as their first signing of the Martin era in the coming days.

They have beaten off competition from Salford City to sign the Scottish youth international.

David Beckham and Gary Neville are two of the co-owners of the English League Two side, and the pair have been taught a valuable lesson in transfer dealings by the Scottish giants.

Salford had been particularly keen on the midfielder, but Rangers overtook them in the race, and convinced Mulligan to choose them despite more money being on the table for him south of the border.

The Bears have successfully shown Beckham and Co. the importance of speed and quick decision-making when it comes to getting transfer deals over the line.

Mulligan will be an excellent long-term signing for Rangers

Mulligan is just 22, but he has been earmarked as a promising talent within the Scottish domestic game for some time now.

The Dundee man has now completed his third full season as a genuine first-team player at Dens Park, and Rangers will be delighted to have secured his services.

The deal is set to be concluded for a fee in the region of £1million, which immediately makes Mulligan a more cost-effective option than if Rangers had looked to Europe in search of a promising young talent.

He has bags of experience already in the Scottish Premiership and has the potential to develop into a key figure for the Bears in the coming years.

Rangers will understandably be keen to bring in players who are ready to have an impact in their team straight away, but it’s a promising sign that they are also being mindful of their future with players like Mulligan as well.
