Rangers owners face immediate Raskin dilemma after Belgium performance

Nicolas Raskin was for a long time somewhat of a polarising figure among the Rangers fanbase.

Raskin is seen as an important part of Rangers’ future by some, while others still believe the club should sell him to fund the purchase of more talented players.

After his performances for Belgium during this international window, the decision to stick or twist might arrive faster than anticipated.

Raskin emerges as important squad member for Belgium

Raskin earned his third and fourth caps for Belgium in the past few days.

While his performance in the 1-1 draw against North Macedonia was uninspiring, the same can be said of most Belgian players during a disappointing World Cup qualifier.

However, the 24-year-old made a notable impact from the bench during his country’s dramatic win against Wales on Sunday (9 June).

The match was locked at 3-3 when he was introduced after 75 minutes. His introduction helped to turn the momentum back in Belgium’s favour, and they were able to score a late winner through Kevin De Bruyne.

Rangers owners face Raskin stick or twist decision this summer

Raskin’s emergence as an important squad player for Belgium could raise his value in the transfer market, further tempting Rangers to sell him this summer.

His stock could be at an all-time high now that he has broken into the national team, making it the perfect time to cash in.

At the same time, his performance might convince new Gers manager Russell Martin that the Belgian should be an important part of his plans. His contract runs until 2027.

Rangers’ owners have promised Martin a large transfer warchest to build a team capable of competing with Celtic next season, but some sales might be needed to raise further funds.

Raskin has been linked with a move away from Ibrox for some time, while Cyriel Dessers could also be on his way out.

It will be fascinating to see what Martin wants to do with these players and other existing first-team stars.
