Rangers could increase Cyriel Dessers asking price after Ibrox transfer latest
Cyriel Dessers has been linked with a move away from Rangers this summer.
The Nigerian international ended the season as Rangers‘ top scorer, scoring 18 goals across 35 Scottish Premiership appearances.
However, the striker came under criticism for frustrating performances at times, with some arguing he is not up to the required levels.
With a new era now underway in Glasgow under the management of Andrew Cavenagh, the 49ers and Russell Martin, Dessers may not be a part of that.

Rangers told how to handle Dessers transfer
There is often talk surrounding Dessers around the period of a transfer window and with two years left on his contract, Rangers are still in a position to cash in.
As Martin aims to look forward to more optimistic times with his Light Blues squad ahead of the new season, it has to be considered whether there is a place for the 30-year-old.
Hamza Igamane emerged as a promising star at Ibrox this season and will likely fit the new boss’ way of playing, although consistency levels are not there just yet.
Martin may well choose to turn to the market, though, and look at new faces who could come in and provide the boost he wants in the final third.
It has been reported that AEK Athens are keen on signing Dessers this summer, and with interest on the table, Rangers may have to engage, with a valuation of £5m suggested.
Speaking on the Rangers Review podcast (10 June), Derek Clark admitted: “I’d be looking to start the conversation at £5million for Dessers.”
Chris Jack agreed, saying: “The financial situation is different, so if that Dessers valuation, it doesn’t have to be a case of just taking anything just to get him out because that then frees up wages and frees up a place in the squad.
“Rangers can afford to actually go to the negotiating table, play a stronger hand and say, look, we think Dessers is a five, six million pound player. Five, six million pound is the asking price. If you don’t fancy it, fine.”
Rangers should only cash in for their valuation
After the season Dessers has had, it’s not hard to understand why he is attracting interest this summer.
He scores goals, and that is a notoriously hard position to recruit in, even if he does miss chances.
With that in mind, if Rangers can make a profit on the £4.5million they paid for Dessers then it’s worth cashing in.
Season | Appearances | Goals |
2024/25 | 35 | 18 |
2023/24 | 35 | 16 |
However, there are still two years remaining on his contract, so the Gers are under no pressure to sell themselves short of where they value Dessers.
If the striker does stay put, he is a proven option in the Scottish Premiership and while his role may decrease, there is no reason Rangers couldn’t cash in still at a later point.
