Russell Martin given assurances as Rangers seek Conor Coady swoop

Russell Martin is keen on bringing Leicester City defender Conor Coady to Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The American consortium comprising Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are in charge, having completed the takeover.

They have already vowed to inject £20million worth of funds into the Ibrox coffers in order to give Gers a chance at winning the title next season.

Cyriel Dessers’ sale could fund Coady’s transfer with contact already made

According to the Daily Record (9 June), Coady could be the first new addition made in defence this summer.

The Ibrox chiefs have already made contact with Leicester as they aim to bring the England international to Glasgow.

It’s understood that Cyriel Dessers’ sale will free up funds for Rangers to sign more players.

Russell Martin has been given assurances by Patrick Stewart that funds will be freed up to add to his squad.

However, he will also have to get certain players out of the door in order to raise funds for a proper rebuild at Rangers.

Rangers could be signing a future captain in Coady

Coady is precisely what Rangers need to bolster their defence and leadership, especially with James Tavernier’s uncertain future and inconsistent performances.

The 32-year-old centre-back, with 10 England caps, brings a wealth of Premier League experience from his time at Wolves and Leicester, offering stability to a backline that has struggled for consistency.

Coady’s organisational skills, vocal presence and ability to play out from the back align perfectly with modern defensive demands, making him an ideal fit for the Ibrox outfit’s ambitions in the Scottish Premiership and Europe.

His leadership qualities, honed as Wolves’ captain, position him as a natural successor to Tavernier, whose defensive lapses and speculated exit have raised concerns.

Coady’s proven track record in high-pressure environments, including important appearances for Leicester in their promotion campaign, demonstrates his reliability.

At a potential transfer fee reflecting his experience, Coady could anchor the defence and mentor younger players, providing the stability and inspiration Rangers need to challenge for silverware while seamlessly stepping into the captaincy role.
