Kevin Thelwell ‘to have multi-millions to work with at Rangers’ after transfer claim

Kevin Thelwell has a massive task to build a competitive squad for Russell Martin at Rangers in the ongoing transfer window.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are expected to invest around £20million at the Gers as they look to invest heavily following their takeover.

The new sporting director will undoubtedly need a significant sum to replace the likes of Vaclav Cerny at Ibrox, who has returned to Wolfsburg after an impressive loan spell at the Light Blues.

With the Glaswegian outfit arguably hoping to compete with Celtic next season, they may have the opportunity to get more money in their coffers by sanctioning transfers soon.

Philippe Clement expects Ranger to receive good amount for five players, Thelwell can use the money

Philippe Clement expects the Gers to get good money for at least five of their players this summer.

Clinton Nsiala, Jefte, Nicolas Raskin, Mohamed Diomande and Hamza Igamane have been earmarked by the Belgian head coach to bring a significant sum to Ibrox.

While the Light Blues will be losing some of their most important players if they sell their valuable stars, it may provide Thelwell with enough resources to rebuild the Glaswegian outfit.

Speaking to BBC Sport (8 June), the ex-Bears boss said: “Raskin made a really good evolution. A lot of clubs are interested in him. But you also have Jefte, Igamane, Nsiala, who will have a better value. Diomande is also one of those guys.

“The club has worked well the past year in that way. There are now four or five players with the value to sell, and several teams would pay good amounts of money. The club needs to build with that, or the new owners have to say ‘we don’t do it that way now because we have enough money’.”

Cavenagh and 49ers have big decision to make at Ibrox

Raskin has been attracting interest from Aston Villa after his impressive displays for the Gers and an exceptional debut with Belgium in March.

Igamane has popped up on Newcastle United’s radar after a breakthrough season at the Light Blues, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave for a significant sum in the coming years.

Diomande has been another key player for the Bears in the current campaign, and with his stock high, Cavenagh and the 49ers may have a tough decision to make.

Rangers have had financial difficulties in recent seasons, but the takeover seems to have alleviated those issues to some extent.

While the Gers may not need to sell their superstars in the coming months, their player trading model has been underwhelming over the years.

It would make sense for the Light Blues to cash in on their assets and search for the next potential gem.

Keeping hold of Raskin, Igamane and Diomande evidently gives Martin a better chance of competing with Celtic, but selling them now may be prudent for long-term, sustainable success.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Americans will approach their first transfer window in Glasgow.
