Cavenagh told to brace for something totally unique at upcoming Rangers event
Rangers fans saw a lot of their optimism for next season dissipate as Russell Martin was announced as their new manager, against the wishes of most of the fanbase.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises completed a takeover of the club which had caused excitement, with promise of investment and on-pitch improvements.
Big names such as Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti were sounded out as managers, but fans were unhappy as Martin was appointed instead.
Cavenagh will now speak to Rangers fans at the next shareholders’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 23 June, and he now finds himself in a unique position.

Cavenagh told what to expect at Rangers AGM
Cavenagh will face his first Rangers AGM since the takeover and the appointment of Martin, and there will be a lot of questions surrounding the appointment.
Many fans will question why Martin was chosen over other candidates, and why Ancelotti – a popular choice – was overlooked.
Writing in the Daily Record (8 June), journalist Hugh Keevins claimed that this upcoming AGM will be nothing like any other event Cavenagh or the American consortium have experienced in their business careers before.
| Martin | PPG |
| Southampton | 1.58 |
| Swansea | 1.35 |
| MK Dons | 1.38 |
“It is the definition of box office and will be unlike any other shareholders’ gathering he, or any of his associates, have ever witnessed in their business lives,” Keevins wrote.
“They want to create financial sustainability where there has been none for quite some time. The fans want cash scattered in the transfer market like a man with no arms.
“This is the culture clash Cavenagh and his cohorts will need to confront when they sit at the top table and invite questions from the floor at June 23’s AGM.”

49ers Enterprises need to deliver in transfer market
Martin has been harshly written off by many before he has even had a chance to lead a training session, and he is already under considerable pressure.
If the 39-year-old is to stand any chance of success at all, he will need backing in the transfer market as Rangers aim to rebuild their squad.
49ers Enterprises hinted at a £20million transfer budget following the takeover, but this will need to be spent wisely, and there is no room for error.
Martin has shown that with a squad capable of competing at the top, his style can be a dominant one, with his Southampton side achieving promotion from the Championship, but the pressure he will face at Ibrox will be unlike anything in his managerial career so far.
