Rangers set for flurry of transfer action after Martin appointment – Exclusive

Russell Martin is officially in place as Rangers boss and the Gers can finally push on with transfer business.

Martin was announced as Philippe Clement’s permanent successor this week, having seen off competition from Davide Ancelotti among others.

While the appointment of Martin at Ibrox was not universally welcomed, everyone associated with Rangers will now get fully behind the new head coach.

However, the only way the former Southampton boss is realistically going to seriously turn things around at Rangers is if he is backed in the summer transfer window.

The Gers continue to be linked with numerous players, with Conor Coady reported to be the latest on Rangers’ transfer radar.

No new signings have yet been made, but Derek Ferguson – the brother of former interim boss Barry Ferguson – hopes that will change imminently now a new manager has been appointed.

“The hope is that these targets they’ve been looking at have already also been spoken to, and given an insight into what’s been happening with the managerial position,” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News.

Now that’s in place, I’m hoping for a flurry of action in terms of both players coming and also those going.

It’s why I’ve been getting impatient. You do panic a little, but once we see some players start to come, then we’ll get an idea of how Rangers will fare next season.

We’ve been saying for years now that the recruitment has been poor to say the least.”

Rangers need to get a move on with summer transfers

While the 2024-25 campaign may only have ended three weeks ago exactly, the new season is right around the corner.

Rangers have a truly massive Champions League qualifier in July and Martin will need new players recruited way before then.

While the managerial and takeover situations have not helped, there can no longer be any excuses. Rangers need a number of new faces, and they need them right now.

Only once they are brought in can Martin truly get to work on bridging the gap on Celtic and hopefully make a much better fight of it in 2025-26.
