Rangers ready long-term Conor Coady offer as transfer talks advance

Rangers are looking to bolster their defence in the transfer window by signing Leicester City centre-back Conor Coady.

Russell Martin has been appointed at Ibrox, and wants the Gers to make a host of signings ahead of next season to reinforce the squad.

Kevin Thelwell is a massive fan of Coady, but it remains to be seen whether the Light Blues will be able to get a deal over the line.

Leon Balogun has left the Bears, and they’re now advancing in their attempts to acquire the England international with 10 caps this summer.

Coady could be offered long-term deal at Rangers as enquiry made

Coady could be offered a long-term deal to sign for the Gers in the current transfer window, according to Record.

The news outlet reports (7 June) that while the Light Blues can’t get near the English centre-back’s current wages, they may be willing to secure his future with an extended contract.

It has been claimed that the Bears have inquired about the 32-year-old’s availability and are interested in knowing whether a deal can be struck at Ibrox.

The defender has a year left on his current contract, but the situation is complicated a bit due to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s uncertain future at the King Power Stadium.

Thelwell needs to convince Coady of Ibrox transfer

Robin Propper has been linked with a return to FC Twente, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Dutchman leave after a disappointing season in G51.

Souttar’s future at Ibrox is also uncertain, considering his contract will enter its final year in the coming weeks.

Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson struggled to turn the Gers into a resolute defensive unit, resulting in inconsistent displays.

Rangers fans will expect a major squad overhaul at Ibrox this summer following the takeover by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, with a significant sum set aside for transfers.

The goalkeeping department will be the first thing the Gers need to evaluate, with Jack Butland losing his starting spot towards the end of the campaign.

James Tavernier hasn’t been at his best either in recent seasons, and the Light Blues evidently need a replacement for the right-back.

Jefte has shown fragility with his defensive play since signing for the Bears, while Dujon Sterling and Ridvan Yilmaz’s consistent fitness issues make them unreliable.

Coady could potentially bring much-needed quality and experience to the Glaswegian outfit’s backline, but there arguably need to be more additions in the backline.
