Steven Gerrard reacts to massive Rangers arrival after terms agreed

Steven Gerrard is a much-loved figure at Rangers after his highly successful spell at Ibrox as manager.

The Liverpool legend was in-charge of the Gers between 2018 and 2021, where he won the Scottish Premiership.

Gerrard was recently linked back to Rangers as the Glaswegians searched for their first permanent manager since Philippe Clement.

However, Gerrard subsequently pulled out of the race to become Rangers manager, resulting in Russell Martin’s appointment.

Russell Martin was confirmed as Rangers’ 20th manager on Tuesday.

The former Southampton boss has a big task on his hands if he is to knock Celtic off their perch.

While the announcement surrounding Martin’s appointment as Rangers manager was embarrassing, there is an increased amount of optimism surrounding the appointment.

The Englishman is a highly-rated upcoming coach, with an eye-catching style of play.

After completing his first day at Ibrox on Tuesday, Rangers subsequently posted on their Instagram (5 June) a series of photos of the coach in his new role.

As a result, Gerrard reacted to the post with a like.

Gerrard’s reaction with give Martin more legitimacy

Despite Martin’s reputation, many of the Ibrox faithful are still uncertain about his appointment.

The Englishman was awful at Southampton in the Premier League and has made a habit of jumping ship if a better offer comes along.

However, Gerrard’s show of approval towards Martin will likely give him more legitimacy among the doubters and help him settle into Glasgow better.

Nevertheless, results are the most important factor, and if the 39-year-old can qualify Rangers for the Champions League over the coming months, it will be hard to argue that he isn’t the right man for the job.

Hopefully, the Gers can secure a series of signings over the coming weeks to ensure that the Glaswegians are in the best possible position for the upcoming season.
