Rangers want £5m deal to sign midfielder ‘who can lead to major Ibrox profit’
Rangers are set for a busy summer, with the transfer window now open.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises’ takeover at Ibrox has made the Glaswegians the richest club in Scotland.
Therefore, investment is expected with the US consortium aiming to knock Celtic off their perch in the Scottish Premiership.
Now that Russell Martin is set to become the new Rangers manager, transfer business can begin at the Gers.

Rangers eye Metinho who has been compared to Vitinha
One player that Rangers are targeting this summer is Metinho.
The 22-year-old midfielder spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan to Swiss side Basel from Troyes.
Here, Metinho helped FCB win their first Swiss Super League title in eight years as he played 12 top-flight matches on his way to this achievement.

Now, according to former Herald Sport and Scottish Sun journalist Mark Hendry, Rangers want to sign the Congolese star this summer.
He wrote in his Substack (5 June) that the Gers have sounded out his availability, and Troyes are looking for around £5 million for Metinho.
Former Livingston boss Marcio Maximo also commented on the potential transfer, believing that Rangers would make “a lot of money” on Metinho as he compared him to PSG star Vitinha
He said: “I watched some games with Metinho playing for Fluminense. He has good long and short passing and he has good vision. He also worked well with both feet,” Maximo revealed.
“He was efficient in his marking back then and very competitive.
“He might need to appear more in the attacking areas to attack the space but he has improved.
“I believe he could earn Rangers a lot of money in a few years because he has great potential. Midfielders who can organise the game like Casemiro and Vitinha are difficult to discover these days.”

Rangers need to take a risk and sign Maximo
A £5 million signing would be a steep investment for Rangers for such an untested talent.
The 49ers have given the Gers £20 million to spend this summer, and the Brazilian would take up a quarter of this budget.
However, it is a risk Rangers must take this summer.
Unlike many of the players the Glaswegians have been linked to, Metinho has won a league title in a competitive division.
This, combined with his young age would make him an excellent signing at Ibrox.
Hopefully, Rangers can see this vision and will add Metinho to the Glaswegians’ squad this summer.
