Jack Butland reacts as official Rangers announcement made

Rangers have finally confirmed the appointment of a new manager in the shape of Russell Martin.

The Gers have been in need of a permanent replacement for Philippe Clement ever since the Belgian was sacked back in February.

With the completed takeover of the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh, the head coach recruitment process has finally come to an end in Govan.

This has seen Martin named as the new boss at Ibrox, with Gers keeper Jack Butland reacting to the confirmation on social media.

Butland reacts as Rangers appoint Martin

There have been plenty of names linked with the vacant role in G51, but the likes of Davide Ancelotti and Steven Gerrard have now been snubbed.

This has seen the former Light Blues defender brought in as a somewhat unpopular option among certain sections of the supporter base.

This comes despite Martin’s desire to play an attractive style of football, which has proven to be effective at times throughout his career.

Although his spell with Southampton in the Premier League was poor, the Englishman’s approach could prove to be excellent in the Scottish Premiership.

As a result, he will be keen to get a good look at his squad coming into the new campaign, with fringe players potentially set to return to the fold at Ibrox.

One of those outcasts could prove to be Butland after being benched throughout the latter stages of the season under Barry Ferguson.

With that being said, it is clear that the appointment of Martin has gone down well with the ex-England international as he swiftly liked the official announcement post on Instagram (5 June).

Butland could benefit from Martin appointment at Rangers

It is fair to say that the 32-year-old deserved to be dropped from his role as number one towards the end of last campaign.

This saw Liam Kelly take up the role in between the sticks, but coming into the summer, the ex-Stoke City man will be keen to take his number one spot back.

Martin could be the man to award that to Butland in the coming weeks and months as he looks to employ his passing style of play in Govan.
