Sky Sports drop next Rangers manager update from Ibrox amid Martin latest
Rangers have yet to conclude their hunt for their next permanent manager.
Almost four months have passed since Rangers have had a permanent figure in the dugout, with Barry Ferguson taking over after the sacking of Philippe Clement.
Given the short-term appointment of Ferguson, the Light Blues have had months to find the next successor, with many hoping a deal would have been concluded immediately after the season.
However, three days into the summer transfer window, Ibrox is yet to witness a permanent hire, with an update emerging from Sky Sports.

Russell Martin remains in Rangers driver’s seat
Rumours over the appointment of Davide Ancelotti have slowly faded away over the last week, with Russell Martin emerging as the clear favourite for the job.
Reports recently have suggested that the ex-Southampton boss is set to take over at Ibrox, though an update from Sky Sports suggests it may not be as imminent as first rumoured.
Gordon Duncan, speaking from outside Ibrox via Sky Sports News (4 June, 9:34am), said: “‘Closing in’ appears to be the key phrase, and they are closing in on Russell Martin. Talks are at an advanced stage, albeit nothing has been officially offered or accepted yet.
Martin | PPG |
Southampton | 1.58 |
Swansea | 1.35 |
MK Dons | 1.38 |
“There’s still work to be done, but certainly closing in on Russell Martin to become the new head coach. If you look at the timeline of this, I think the Rangers fans are legitimately in the period where they wake up every morning in a morning like this and wonder if today is the day.”
With the transfer window now open and the 49ers takeover complete, Rangers simply don’t have the time to waste.
Recruitment is going to be huge this summer, and as long as this uncertainty lingers in Glasgow, potential targets will be put off by the idea of making a move.

Rangers need to find resolution to manager situation
This manager search has dragged on for far too long now, and the longer it does, the harder planning becomes this summer.
Rangers will be afforded no margin for error when it comes to the decisions they make in the next few months, and by taking so much time over this appointment, they were losing out on time to address the other concerns.
The hope will be that Martin is appointed by the end of the week, but reports suggest a deal is far from being sealed as of yet.
All eyes will be on Ibrox for the next few days, and those of a Light Blue persuasion will be hoping for some positive news at last.
