Simon Jordan surprised by Rangers takeover detail as ‘significant’ Celtic claim made

49ers Enterprises recently completed their takeover of Rangers, and have promised significant investment into the team.

Rangers endured an utterly miserable season but they will now hope their fortunes change under new ownership, but there is already divide within the fanbase.

Russell Martin is set to be appointed as the first manager of this new era, with a mixed reaction among the fans so far.

Now, Simon Jordan has shared his scepticism that Rangers could immediately improve, despite a claim from the chiefs of 49ers Enterprises issuing an exciting promise recently.

Jordan questions 49ers’ £20m Rangers investment

49ers Enterprises pledged that they would invest £20 million into the squad this summer now their takeover has been completed, which could help rebuild the team into a title-challenging one.

However, Jordan has now told talkSPORT (2 June) that this may not be enough to bridge the gap to Celtic.

“I don’t know what difference that’s going to make. Ultimately, you’ve got a club which is quite significantly behind Celtic – although they have landed some gloves on Celtic in the last season, which they hadn’t done previously,” he stated.

“I wouldn’t be too excited by the statement that £20m is being made available.”

Rangers are in for a big summer window, but it will still have to be perfectly executed if they are to catch Celtic.

Rangers cannot afford transfer mistakes

This is set to be one of the biggest summer transfer windows in the history of Rangers, both in terms of outlay and importance.

With the new ownership under the 49ers and backing for a new manager, this is the perfect time for Rangers to get their act together and catch Celtic after four years without winning the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers need to assert their domestic dominance, but need a massive squad rebuild if they are to bridge the gap to Celtic.

Although £20 million may go some way into aiding this, Rangers cannot afford many transfer mistakes this summer, and they have to invest smartly into players who can make an immediate impact, while also looking toward the future, in the market this summer.
