Rangers reach agreement in principle for new Ibrox manager hire

Rangers finally look set to name a new head coach after reaching a principle agreement.

The Gers have undergone a lengthy search for a new manager after Barry Ferguson departed at the end of his stint as interim.

This process has lasted many weeks, but after a takeover from Andrew Cavenagh and Co., the process has stepped up in Govan.

It finally appears that the Ibrox club have reached an agreement over a fresh face to take up a spot in the dugout ahead of the new campaign.

Rangers finally reach agreement for next manager

There have been a number of key names linked with the vacant role in G51, with a replacement for Philippe Clement necessary at this stage.

This is especially the case with the 49ers coming in and embarking on a new age for the Light Blues in the Scottish Premiership.

Davide Ancelotti has been strongly linked with the role, but looks set to miss out after an agreement was reached elsewhere.

This comes after Keith Jackson reported via the Daily Record on 4 June that Russell Martin looks set to return to Ibrox, with a move expected to be confirmed in the next 48 hours.

Talks with the ex-Southampton boss are said to be in the final stages, with contracts pending and set to be rubber-stamped, while his backroom team needs to be approved in Govan.

This looks set to bring to an end the lengthy recruitment drive, finishing with Martin taking up the hot seat at Ibrox after six months out of football.

Martin set to be named as Rangers manager

There may have been links to the likes of Ancelotti and Steven Gerrard, but it looks as if the 39-year-old is the chosen one for Cavenagh and the 49ers.

This certainly represents an exciting prospect for supporters given the style of football that the Englishman will unleash in the Scottish Premiership.
