Martin en route to Glasgow to finalise Rangers terms, announcement timeline shortens
Russell Martin now looks certain to become the next Rangers manager after months of searching.
Since Philippe Clement was sacked in February, the Gers have not had a permanent man in the dugout.
Barry Ferguson took over at Ibrox on an interim basis. However, the former captain was let go at the end of the season.
Now, former Southampton boss Martin looks certain to be the next Rangers manager, with his arrival imminent.

Martin now set to become Rangers manager in 24 hours
News broke on Wednesday that Martin had beaten Ancelotti to become the new Rangers manager.
Ancelotti had stalled on negotiations this week, which caused the Englishman to become the front-runner in the final stages.
Martin is set to bring in numerous coaching staff with him as he returns to management for the first time since December 2024.
Reports had stated that Martin was set to be appointed at Ibrox in the next 48 hours, but this estimate has now changed.
According to STV Sports presenter Raman Bhardwaj (4 June), the 39-year-old will now join Rangers in the next 24 hours and he has now travelled to Glasgow to finalise the deal.
Martin will be expected to deliver quick results at Rangers
While Martin’s appointment is set to come just days after the transfer window opened, the Englishman won’t have long to prepare his squad.
Rangers’ Champions League qualifiers start at the end of July, giving the 39-year-old a month and a half to bring in his own players and make a team in his image.
| Russell Martin’s managerial career | Time spent | Win percentage |
| MK Dons | 2019-21 | 37.5 per cent |
| Swansea City | 2021-23 | 36.36 per cent |
| Southampton | 2023-24 | 45.21 per cent |
The Englishman is likely to be heavily judged on the Gers’ European success, and an early exit will cause criticism.
However, qualification for Europe’s most prestigious competition would silence the doubters and help increase his prestige at Ibrox.
Hopefully, Martin’s timely appointment will result in quick results to help Rangers return to the top.
