Cerny apologises to Rangers fans as new talks admission shared

Vaclav Cerny has spoken out following his loan spell with Rangers last season.

Rangers are just days away from being able to initiate their summer recruitment plans, with the appointment of Russell Martin set to be announced at Ibrox imminently.

After the 49ers takeover was confirmed, the Light Blues have nothing in their way in their bid to recruit new talent in the summer transfer window.

The Light Blues have a huge summer ahead of them on a recruitment front, and replacing last season’s starlet Cerny will be high up on their list of priorities, with the Czech international revealing his future plans.

Rangers unlikely to bring Cerny back to Ibrox

Cerny was immense for Rangers last season, but the saying to “never fall in love with a loan player” will be the case again this summer, with a return looking increasingly unlikely.

A move to recently promoted Sunderland has been mooted [Mackem News], but any decision on his future is likely to come further down the line, with the winger speaking out on where he stands.

Via the Daily Record, Cerny said: “I had a wonderful relationship with [Rangers] fans, I think I gave them a lot of nice experiences, just like they gave me.

“I’m just sorry I couldn’t win anything with Rangers. But I will have very nice memories, they have a magical stadium.

“I still have no idea where I will be playing next season. Contact (with Wolfsburg) has taken place, and we all want to know where we stand. It has become clear what they expect from me, what I expect from them.”

Cerny turns 28 in October, meaning his next permanent move is likely to be his last big one as a player, and he will have a crucial decision to make.

Rangers will undoubtedly be keen to bring him back to Ibrox after such a fruitful loan spell in Glasgow, but as it stands, it seems as though any deal is looking unlikely this summer.

Martin appointment could be key to summer business at Ibrox

Rangers have a lot of work that they need to do this summer, and given the failures they demonstrated domestically last season, they will be afforded no margin for error when it comes to the decisions they make within it.

Replacing Cerny will be the first priority, though there are several areas of the squad that will need attention.

With Martin expected to take over, the managerial uncertainty will come to an end, meaning that transfer negotiations are likely to flow much smoother.
