Will Still bombshell emerges as Rangers finally close in on new manager
Rangers are still searching for their new manager.
The 49ers completed their takeover of the Govan outfit on Friday (30 May), and the new boss is expected to be appointed this week.
Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin are the leading contenders after Barry Ferguson left his interim position at the end of the season, but Will Still also emerged as a possible option weeks ago.
Steven Gerrard has ruled himself out of contention, wanting to spend more time with his family, but did not dismiss returning to the Light Blues at some point in the future.

English dismisses Still as a Rangers contender
Still was recently unveiled as the new Southampton manager at the end of their dismal Premier League season, but that appears to have gone unnoticed.
Tom English could not believe that the Englishman was becoming a favourite for the Ibrox hotseat in recent hours, telling everyone to calm down.
Taking to X, he said: “New Southampton manager Will Still has in the last few hours become the favourite to be the new Rangers manager.
“Come on. We’ve all had a drink. Everyone, calm down.”

Rangers will not appoint Still
Still may be one of the most exciting young coaches in world football, but he will not be spotted at the Auchenhowie outfit anytime soon, unless his Saints team are playing the Gers.
There is no chance that he would leave a role that he has just been handed, one where he should get the opportunity to manage in the Premier League next year.
| Club | Spell |
| Lierse | 2017-2021 |
| Beerschot | 2021-2022 |
| Reims | 2022-2024 |
| Lens | 2024-2025 |
| Southampton | 2025-present |
The former RC Lens coach reportedly moved to England to be closer to his partner, he would not suddenly abandon that stance to move to Scotland with the Bears.
The new Gers owners will be focused on the two frontrunners, doing their final checks and pushing ahead with an appointment of either Ancelotti or Martin.
Then the real work can begin, finding transfer targets and working out who does not have a place in the squad anymore, as a huge overhaul needs to happen this summer if they are to have any chance of catching Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
It is a pivotal summer, as the 49ers look to banish the demons of the previous era after a truly miserable campaign and bring the excitement back to the blue half of Glasgow.
