Rangers ready Metinho transfer after new 49ers developments

Rangers are setting the wheels in motion for a fresh dawn at Ibrox, with a new manager and players on the agenda.

It looks as though Troyes midfielder Metinho could be the first Rangers signing of the summer, with the French club ready to cash in.

The Gers have the Brazilian star on their shortlist of targets as the 49ers prepare to arm their spending gun for a summer foray.

Now, the Glasgow outfit have been told what they must do if they are to land the 22-year-old this window.

Rangers told Metinho price by Troyes

Rangers identified Metinho as a prime target last month, while they still had football to play under Barry Ferguson.

While Ferguson has departed his role as temporary manager, interest in the central-midfielder remains very much the same.

Metinho is about to head into the final year of his contract with the Ligue 2 side, meaning they want to raise funds from him before it is too late.

The Brazilian spent the second half of the season on loan with Swiss side FC Basel, where he made 14 appearances in all competitions.

As he returns to France, it is understood that Troyes are looking for close to £5million for the midfielder, according to the Daily Record.

That is £1million more than the Ligue 2 side paid for Metinho when they signed him from Brazilian side Fluminense in 2021, with the Bears already approaching to enquire.

The report adds that clubs in the English Championship and MLS have also made contact regarding the central midfielder.

Metinho a strong start for the 49ers

While Metinho would just be the start, his potential acquisition would be the first step as Rangers aim to rebuild this summer.

The Brazilian is a combative midfielder, and his impressive defensive statistics mean he can add much-needed steel in the hub of the Gers’ midfield.

A £5million fee for a Ligue 2 player feels a bit steep, but at 22, Metinho does have a long career ahead of him and would be worth the investment.

There is nothing to say the Ibrox club could not negotiate the deal, but that would risk losing ground on other interested parties.

Rangers’ interest in Metinho is positive news and should begin their summer by signing the Brazilian.
