Rangers transfer budget could soar past £20m after Mohamed Diomande news

Rangers are set for an exciting transfer window under their new owners.

The 49ers Enterprises group, led by Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh, completed their takeover on Friday (30 May).

The American investors are set to bankroll a significant overhaul to the playing squad at Ibrox after a dismal campaign.

The coffers could be boosted by the latest news on Mohamed Diomande‘s future, emerging from Glasgow.

Diomande transfer latest could boost Rangers’ budget

The Gers are expected to be busy in the summer transfer market as they look to overhaul Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

A report from the print edition of the Scottish Daily Mail (2 June, page 71) claims that Marathe and Co have pledged £20million to the Govan outfit for the upcoming window via freshly-issued shares.

It states that the budget could be increased by player sales, such as Diomande, who is attracting interest from Everton.

Rangers can absorb Diomande loss

Keeping hold of their key assets will be a tough task for the new ownership at Auchenhowie, especially when there are significant profits to be made.

If David Moyes’ side are willing to offer the right amount, the 49ers should take it and run and reinvest the money wisely across the squad, which is lacking in several areas.

The 23-year-old had a solid campaign, notching four goals and seven assists in 36 matches in the league but it could be argued that he should have done better from the number 10 role.

The Ivorian could exit Govan in a blockbuster deal which would help the finances of the Scottish giants while also giving them an opportunity to close the gap to Brendan Rodgers‘ side domestically.

However, they might want to wait until the new manager, who is yet to be decided, has taken a look at the team and made a decision on who he wants to keep around.

It promises to be an exciting summer for Gers supporters, no matter what happens in regards to player sales, the new ownership has already shown how they operate in the market at Leeds and there is plenty of encouragement.
