Dave King shares what he knows about Rangers next season already

Rangers have finally had their takeover by the 49ers Enterprises completed at Ibrox.

A busy summer is now expected in Glasgow, as the Gers look to prepare themselves to be in shape for the new campaign.

Firstly, the issue of a new manager has to be addressed, with Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin the names at the top of the list.

Then, with only a few weeks before pre-season training gets underway, all eyes will be on incomings and outgoings at Ibrox, with Dave King sharing what he knows already.

King reveals Andrew Cavenagh plan for Rangers

Rangers supporters have made no secret of their disappointment with the outgoing regime, having felt let down for some time now.

While the new investors aren’t expected to fix everything overnight, there have already been signs of big changes with Nils Koppen leaving Ibrox.

To comply with PSR guidance, the 49ers will have to be measured in their business, with free transfers including the likes of Jamie Vardy being seen as potential shrewd moves.

However, for many in the stands at Ibrox, it’s about showing a renewed level of ambition, combined with the knowledge of where the Light Blues should be fighting in the table.

King has reassured supporters that Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe are well aware of the task they have taken on, though.

Speaking to the Daily Record (2 June), King said: “The ambition most certainly must be to win a trophy next season. My understanding is the expectation is to be competitive next season.

“Andrew and the investors coming in understand there’s going to have to be a substantial net investment. It’s really how much is going in total because we have to get some guys out as well.

“We’ve been paying a lot of money for players, some that virtually never started and others that give us very little time on the pitch. If they can get them out and free up the wages and add the new money, then it could be a very, very substantial new investment.”

Rangers have to be patient with the 49ers

As King says, supporters at Ibrox do have to manage their expectations to ensure long-term success on a sustainable basis.

The ambition is there from Cavenagh, which is key to achieving the types of success that supporters will want to see in Glasgow.

Rangers want to close the gap with Celtic.

The key to getting there as quickly as possible will be using the market in smart ways, trying to minimise the outgoings.

Ridvan Yilmaz is reportedly keen on an exit from Rangers and the Gers must be willing to cash in on these types of players to start bringing money back into the fold too.

Big changes are coming in Govan, this is just the start.
