49ers could seal bargain Joe Gelhardt transfer for Rangers as price tag emerges

The 49ers Enterprises takeover at Rangers could give them to edge to sign Joe Gelhardt.

The group led by Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh completed their deal to purchase a controlling stake in the Govan outfit on Friday (30 May).

The Ibrox outfit will now have close ties with the Elland Road club and could take advantage by bringing the striker to Scotland.

Rangers could sign Gelhardt as price tag revealed

The Gers were chasing a deal for Gelhardt in the winter transfer window, however, a move failed to materialise and they were left without a new striker.

A report from Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue (2 June) claims that the 23-year-old could leave the Whites this summer.

It states that a fee of between £3-4million would be enough to convince Daniel Farke’s side to sell the Liverpool-born ace.

49ers can pull off Gelhardt masterclass for Rangers

If the Gers could secure a deal for the highly-rated striker for a cut-price, it would be a great start to the new era.

None of the attacking options at Auchenhowie have impressed consistently this season, with the likes of Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers having patches of good form but failing to find the net on a regular basis.

Gelhardt notched five goals in 20 appearances on loan at Hull City and could thrive in Scottish football as he has the attributes to be a fine performer for the Light Blues.

The Whites ace had stagnated after barely featuring in Yorkshire but it may just be that he needs regular football to fulfil his potential, he would certainly have the chance in Govan given the struggles of the current options in the Scottish Premiership.

He will not have that chance at Leeds as he did not feature in the Championship, so there is little hope for him to forge a starting berth now that they are in the Premier League.

It is a no-brainer for Marathe and Co to secure a deal for the young attacker, given the price tag that has been reported and their connections to the LS11 outfit.
