Kevin Thelwell ally set to quit Everton to join Rangers amid Ibrox exit news

Kevin Thelwell looks set to link up with a former Everton colleague at Rangers.

The 51-year-old completed a switch to Ibrox ahead of the summer after confirming a departure from Merseyside ahead of the Toffees’ stadium move.

This will now see the Gers’ Sporting Director play a key role in the coming months after Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers completed their takeover.

Now, Thelwell looks set to be joined by an ally from his Everton days as exit developments continue after the US consortium confirmed their agreement in Govan.

Thelwell to be joined by Everton colleague at Rangers

There is little surprise that the Light Blues’ new owners will want to make changes to the G51 club ahead of their first season in charge.

This has already seen the American group put their foot down with the likes of Gretar Steinsson not landing a role after the Scottish Premiership move.

It has now turned out to be a similar story for technical director Nils Koppen, who is set to depart his role at Ibrox.

The Gers already have a replacement option in the pipeline for the Dutchman who only took up his current position in November 2024.

Chris Jack has reported (1 June) that Dan Purdy will come in and take up the role of director on Monday (2 June) after departing Everton.

The 31-year-old looks set to work with Thelwell after joining forces at Goodison Park, where the Gers’ Sporting Director fulfilled the same role in L4.

It can only be positive for the Govan club that their new technical director has prior experience working with the current technical director.

Moving into the summer, this duo are likely to have a telling impact on the new manager appointment and any potential signings throughout the window.

This has already seen Davide Ancelotti be heavily linked to the role but with Purdy now linked with a role, any move for a head coach could now be edging closer.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this duo can work alongside Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe after their takeover agreement was announced.
