Dave King blasted over what he said on his way out of Rangers as takeover done

Dave King departed Rangers on sour terms after selling his 13 per cent stake to the 49ers Enterprises.

With his exit confirmed, the Ibrox club can push on in their attempts to appoint a new manager and sign players.

Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin are favourites for the Rangers job, while Francesco Farioli is also being considered.

However, that has not stopped King from trying to influence decisions at the Glasgow club while on his way out.

Dave King criticised amid Ibrox exit

There is a long road ahead as Rangers aim to close the gap on arch rivals Celtic.

The Gers finished the season 17 points adrift of the Bhoys and went through two managers in Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson.

Getting their next managerial appointment right is paramount, and the Glasgow club have taken their time to make a decision.

While Ancelotti and Martin are frontrunners for the role, former Ajax boss Francesco Farioli has also been interviewed by Rangers.

Another name who was linked was Steven Gerrard, who King reportedly wanted to bring back to Ibrox for a second time.

Indeed, his actions have been condemned by the Daily Record (1 June), which wrote about King’s Ibrox departure.

They say that King’s public push for Gerrard to be given the Rangers reins was always a backward step based on shaky ground.

The outlet compared his actions to someone who had sold their house yet reserved the right to tell the new buyer how to decorate their new home.

King was also slated for mentioning the ‘Glasgow factor’ as Celtic have managed just fine without that philosophy.

Rangers face tough Ancelotti, Martin, Farioli call

Picking between the aforementioned trio will be no easy task for the Rangers hierarchy.

Ancelotti has never managed a team before, but boasts a wealth of experience alongside his legendary father, Carlo.

As for Martin, his name is less glitzy; however, getting Southampton promoted to the Premier League deserves immense praise.

Farioli just threw away the Eredivisie title with Ajax, and that must be on the Gers’ minds when considering his credentials.

Whoever gets the nod will need Ibrox behind them as Rangers enter a new dawn.
