Cavenagh makes multi-million Rangers transfer budget promise – ‘Warchest’

Rangers have finally had their takeover completed at Ibrox, making the summer transfer window look a lot more appealing for supporters.

Andrew Cavenagh and his team must first focus on finding a new manager to take the reins after Barry Ferguson’s exit at the end of last season.

However, it will then be all systems go, providing the necessary support for the new boss to bring in the right additions to push the Gers up the Scottish Premiership next season.

Cavenagh sets out Rangers budget plan

Supporters at Ibrox will no doubt feel as though the takeover has been a long time coming, having initially been announced months ago.

However, now completed, the Light Blues will be looking ahead with the hope of competing at the top once more, knocking rivals Celtic off their perch.

There is plenty of work to be done. Although Rangers have already announced the exits of Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence, alongside 13 youth players, there are still more to cut.

The players haven’t necessarily been bad, but a poor attitude and inconsistency from some have caused frustration among the fanbase and calls for a change.

While the 49ers are expected to significantly increase the levels of investment, progress needs to be sustainable to keep in line with PSR regulations, too.

According to Kris Boyd writing in the Scottish Sun (1 June), though, Cavenagh has promised a £20million “warchest” to use in the transfer window.

Rangers to make sustainable progress

As a starting point, £20m gives Rangers the potential to strike some good deals during the summer window, while also keeping in line with regulations.

Although the main aim is to establish themselves at the top, progress has to be measured in order to be sustainable.

The main thing for Rangers supporters will be seeing an improved side that gives their all on the pitch next term, with ambition to succeed being shown on and off the pitch.

For further progress to come, Cavenagh will surely be willing to build when he is able to spend more money and that should be reflected in further success on the field.

It’s a patient game to play and as long as things look as though they are going in the right direction, the rewards in the long term should be worth the wait.
