Ibrox naming rights update emerges as 49ers buy Rangers
Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises’ consortium completed the Rangers takeover on Friday, 30 May.
The Americans secured a 51 per cent stake in the Ibrox outfit, giving them a controlling stake.
Dave King and a number of shareholders parted ways with all or some of their stake.

49ers not considering sale of Ibrox naming rights
The consortium have plenty of work to do this summer and among the first things will be to finalise a new manager hire.
Barry Ferguson has left Rangers, so he surely will not be the next permanent manager.
Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin are understood to be in the running but a decision has not yet been made.
Club | Role | Tenure |
Real Madrid | Assistant Manager | 2021-2025 |
Everton | Assistant Manager | 2019-2021 |
Napoli | Assistant Manager | 2018-2019 |
Bayern Munich | Assistant Manager | 2016-2017 |
49ers will be looking to increase revenues and make the balance sheet look better.
This means that a lot of measures can and will be considered in due course.
However, they do not plan on maximising the stadium by selling Ibrox’s naming rights to the highest bidder.

Rangers fans will be delighted that the Ibrox name remains intact
Rangers fans will be thrilled that 49ers Enterprises, the new controlling stakeholders, have decided against selling the naming rights to Ibrox.
For supporters, it’s more than just a stadium – it’s a hallowed ground steeped in over a century of history, passion, and tradition.
The name “Ibrox” is synonymous with the club’s identity, evoking memories of iconic moments, legendary players and the unwavering loyalty of the fanbase.
Renaming it for commercial gain would risk alienating fans, who see the stadium as a symbol of their shared heritage and pride.
The decision reflects an understanding by the American consortium of the deep emotional connection fans have with Ibrox, prioritising sentiment over short-term financial gain.
This move signals respect for the club’s legacy, fostering goodwill among supporters who were concerned about potential commercialisation under new ownership.
By preserving the Ibrox name, 49ers Enterprises demonstrates a commitment to balancing modernisation with tradition, ensuring the stadium remains a sacred space for generations of Rangers fans.
This choice will strengthen the bond between the new owners and the supporters, setting a positive tone for their tenure as they navigate the club’s future.
