Chris Sutton predicts Celtic transfer spend after £20m Rangers news
Rangers may well be set for healthy investment under the 49ers Enterprises, but a wet towel has been thrown over their expectations already.
The US investors completed their takeover of the Ibrox club, with big changes expected in Govan.
There has been talk of an immediate £20million investment into the Rangers team as they plan to overhaul their squad.
However, former Celtic player Chris Sutton has highlighted a gap in spending between the two Glasgow clubs.

Sutton believes Celtic have a number on the Gers
Celtic’s dominance over Rangers has stretched to four years since the Ibrox club lifted the Scottish Premiership trophy in 2021.
That invincible Rangers title is just a blotch on the Bhoys’ overall recent record, as they have won 13 of the last 14 titles.
However, news of a cash injection will boost the mood at Ibrox, with £20million set to be invested.
While that might not sound like a lot of money to the modern football fan, it would go a lot further in the Scottish Premiership.
Indeed, the £12million spent on Tore Andre Flo in 2000 remains the most Rangers have ever spent on one player.
Player | Signed from | Fee | Year |
Tore Andre Flo | Chelsea | £12million | 2000 |
Ryan Kent | Liverpool | £7.5million | 2019 |
Michael Ball | Everton | £6.5million | 2001 |
Mikel Arteta | Barcelona | £6million | 2002 |
Although the Glasgow club are set to spend, Sutton has reminded supporters of Celtic’s spending power while speaking to the Daily Record (31 May).
He said: “The new Rangers owners are already talking about a £20m immediate investment in the team.
“That’s a decent chunk of money for Scottish football – but not to Celtic. They spent about double that in the last two windows, so that shows you the challenge Rangers face.
“You would expect Celtic to go and spend at least the same again this summer. They’ll have to.”

Rangers must remain patient for success under 49ers
While many will want instant impact at Ibrox, the reality is the revolution will not happen overnight.
Yes, the Glasgow club will receive investment, yes, they will have a new manager, but that does not mean immediate reward.
Rangers must lay the foundations for a fresh chapter, and whoever is given the Ibrox hotseat must be given time.
Whether that be Davide Ancelotti or Francesco Fariolo remains to be seen, but an appointment is now imminent.
New players must be afforded the same time, and although there will be progress, it could take time.
