Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin set for further talks this weekend

One of the first major things the new owners will be tasked with doing is to secure a managerial appointment.

A decision has been made on Barry Ferguson, with the club not keen on making his interim stint a permanent one.

According to the Scottish Sun (31 May), Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin are the frontrunners for the job and further talks are scheduled for this weekend.

Cavenagh is not understood to be in the UK, so he will not be present for face-to-face talks with the managerial candidates.

Sporting director Kevin Thelwell officially begins work on Monday to move things forward.

Rangers need to finalise their managerial appointment soon

Rangers must appoint their next manager swiftly to prepare for the critical summer transfer window, as the new 49ers Enterprises ownership aims to rebuild the squad and boost revenues.

A manager’s input is vital for identifying transfer targets and shaping the team’s tactical identity, ensuring alignment with the club’s ambitions in the Scottish Premiership and beyond.

Delaying the appointment risks disrupting pre-season planning and squad cohesion.

Ancelotti Jr., assistant to his father Carlo at Real Madrid, brings elite-level experience, having contributed to Champions League and La Liga successes.

His tactical acumen and exposure to high-pressure environments make him a strong candidate to elevate Rangers’ competitiveness.

Martin, who was at Southampton, offers a proven track record in the EFL Championship and experience in the Premier League, with a possession-based style that could modernise the Light Blues’ play.

His success in developing young talent aligns with the owners’ long-term vision.

Both candidates’ distinct strengths make them compelling fits to lead Rangers into a new era under the 49ers’ stewardship.
