Sky Sports issue Patrick Stewart exit update as 49ers seal Rangers takeover
Rangers have officially been taken over by a consortium of investors led by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises.
Cavenagh will now become the Board Chairman while Paraag Marathe joins the board as the Vice Chairman.
The duo have spent decades leading highly successful businesses and world class sports brands and will now bring their expertise to Ibrox.

Patrick Stewart, Fraser Thornton, John Halsted and George Taylor set to stay
Patrick Stewart joined Rangers as the CEO back in December before the entire takeover saga gathered steam.
A lot was made about his role under the new owners once the deal ends up going through.
According to Sky Sports (30 May), he does not have to worry about his immediate future as he will remain the CEO.
Club | Role | Tenure |
Real Madrid | Assistant Manager | 2021-2025 |
Everton | Assistant Manager | 2019-2021 |
Napoli | Assistant Manager | 2018-2019 |
Bayern Munich | Assistant Manager | 2016-2017 |
Fraser Thornton, John Halsted, and George Taylor will remain on the board despite the structure undergoing a change.
A new manager appointment is expected to be the priority ahead of what’s likely to be an eventful summer.

Rangers appear set for a bright futue under the 49ers
The recent takeover marks a transformative era for the Scottish Premiership giants.
Securing a 51 per cent controlling stake with a £20m investment, approved by the Scottish FA, the new ownership, with Cavenagh as chairman and Marathe as vice-chair, is poised to elevate Rangers’ on-pitch performance and ensure long-term financial stability.
The consortium’s proven success with Leeds United’s 2023 promotion signals a bright future, with plans to enhance infrastructure, boost fan engagement and prioritise strategic recruitment.
The appointment of Kevin Thelwell as sporting director and the imminent selection of a new manager, with candidates like Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin in the frame, underscores a commitment to competitive excellence.
Retaining key board members like Stewart and Thornton, alongside new additions, ensures continuity and expertise.
Cavenagh’s vision to drive performance and Marathe’s emphasis on community connection promise to restore Rangers to the pinnacle of Scottish football, fostering pride and ambition among supporters.
