Rangers takeover on brink of completion as new Ibrox manager timeline revealed

Rangers’ takeover talks with the 49ers have dominated news at Ibrox throughout 2025.

After a disappointing 2024/25 Scottish Premiership campaign, the Ibrox faithful now have hope that they can challenge Celtic next season.

However, despite the US-based takeover, which is being led by Andrew Cavenagh, being in talks with Rangers for weeks, the takeover has not yet been completed.

This delay is causing concern among Rangers fans, as a new manager is also needed.

49ers on ‘verge’ on Rangers takeover as manager appointment could happen next week

On top of the ongoing takeover talks, the 49ers are also playing a key role in Rangers’ manager hunt

Cavenagh has reportedly flown out to hold talks with Davide Ancelotti as the Gers look to return to the top of Scottish football.

Now, according to The Sun (29 May), an appointment could be made as early as next week as the 49ers close in on their takeover.

Russell Martin’s managerial record Win percentage
MK Dons 37.50 per cent
Swansea City 36.36 per cent
Southampton 45.21 per cent
Martin is a strong contender to become the next Rangers manager

The report states that the takeover at Rangers is on the “verge” of being completed as the 49ers hold talks with Ancelotti and Russell Martin.

However, it is stated that any managerial appointment is “unlikely until next week”.

The 49ers face a busy first month at Rangers

If the takeover is completed by the beginning of June, the 49ers face a massive month at the Glasgow club.

On top of a new manager appointment, the US company will have to organise a transfer budget and start facilitating departures and signings at Ibrox

It will easily be the biggest month at Rangers in years, with plenty of chopping and changing taking place behind the scenes.

Hopefully, the takeover will be completed as quickly as possible to give Rangers the best possible chance of being fully prepared for when the 2025/26 campaign begins.
