Gerrard decides top target he wants to sign for Rangers amid manger return talk
Steven Gerrard has been linked with a sensational return to Rangers in recent weeks.
The Liverpool legend has been out of a job since he left Al-Ettifaq in January 2025.
With Rangers now confirming that Barry Ferguson will not continue as the manager, the 49ers have stepped up their search for a replacement.
Gerrard is believed to be on the shortlist to take over at Rangers after his successful spell at the Glaswegian club between 2018-21.
While an appointment hasn’t been made yet, the 44-year-old is already identifying targets for Rangers’ upcoming summer transfer window.

Gerrard makes Jordan Henderson his top target for Ibrox return
If Gerrard is appointed the new Rangers manager, he is likely to want numerous new signings.
The Gers have not come close to winning the Scottish Premiership since the Englishman left for Aston Villa in 2021.
Therefore, a squad overhaul is needed at Ibrox if they are to end Celtic’s dominance.

Now, according to the Daily Mirror (28 May), Gerrard has already identified his top target this summer.
England international Jordan Henderson, who currently plays for Ajax, is wanted by numerous clubs this summer.
The two former Liverpool captains have remained close, with Gerrard aiming to make Henderson his “top target” if he is appointed at Ibrox.
However, it is believed that the 34-year-old prefers a move to Sunderland who have just returned to the Premier League after their victory in the Championship play-offs.

Henderson would be an excellent Rangers addition
While Henderson has been a controversial figure since he left Liverpool in 2023, there is no doubt about his ability as a footballer.
Despite being 34 years old, he still plays a key role for one of the biggest sides in Europe and was unlucky to miss out on the Eredivisie title this season.
His leadership skills could be a vital asset in Rangers’ dressing room in the next campaign as they look to win another trophy.
Hopefully, if Gerrard is appointed, he can sway Henderson and convince him to join the Gers.
