Birmingham ready double package for Rangers transfer raid after exit announcement

Rangers are set for yet another defining summer, with a new manager and squad overhaul on the Ibrox agenda already.

While Davide Ancelotti was the favourite for the Gers’ hotseat, Rangers have now held talks with Ajax boss Francesco Farioli.

As well as managerial changes, there are likely to be significant makeovers on the pitch, as the Glasgow club strives to make ground on Celtic.

With that in mind, League One champions Birmingham City could help fund that somewhat.

Rangers duo wanted by Birmingham after farewell

Rangers must decide who is fit to lead the march on Celtic as the Glasgow club looks to close the 17-point gap on their old foes.

That decision will likely rest with whoever the Gers bring in to be their new boss, with Farioli a late candidate to step in after his resignation at Ajax.

Two players who have spent time away from Ibrox this season are Ben Davies and Kieran Dowell.

Davies spent the entire season on loan with Birmingham, while Dowell spent half the campaign with the Blues at St Andrew’s.

Although both players said their farewells to the West Midlands, it seems that their time with the newly-promoted club might not be over just yet.

Sources state that City are keen on putting packages together for the Rangers pair, according to the Daily Mail.

They go on to say that Chris Davies’ team will not wait long for an answer so they can pursue other targets if need be, but are happy to wait for the manager situation to play out at Ibrox.

The Gers should cash in on Davies and Dowell

If the Gers want to build a new chapter filled with success, then they should dispose of players they do not need.

Davies and Dowell have performed admirably for Birmingham, but Rangers are better off going after better players.

Given that the Glasgow club will be armed with greater funds after the impending takeover, they can afford to go big under their new owners.

Another reason to sell the duo is that Birmingham are a team with substantial backing, meaning Rangers could drive up their prices.

It is paramount that the Scottish outfit make the right decisions this summer, and this would be a solid first step.
