Andrew Cavenagh days from Rangers takeover as sources share new manager update

Rangers waiting for Cavenagh arrival

With the summer transfer window soon set to open, Rangers need to be in good shape to get underway with their work.

Cavenagh remains at the forefront when it comes to finding a new boss, leaning on Patrick Stewart, Gretar Steinsson and Kevin Thelwell along the way.

According to Keith Jackson in the Daily Record (29 May), the Americans are “days away” from completing their takeover at Rangers, sooner than the previously estimated mid-June.

This will give Cavenagh the ability to make a final call on the decision of who will be the manager.

It is stated that although Steven Gerrard has been mentioned, sources in the region suggest the former boss has decided to stay in Bahrain for at least another year, withdrawing from the race.

Although discussions had been held with those in Glasgow, Gerrard went away to consider the decision with his family and feels this move is not at the right time.

Davide Ancelotti has been at the forefront of recent discussions, with Russell Martin also linked.

Cavenagh has plenty to do at Rangers

The American investor will be as keen to get going at Ibrox as supporters are for him to arrive.

There won’t be much time to waste before preparations for next season are already underway, so the 49ers will have to get going straightaway.

Gerrard has ruled himself out of a Rangers return.

With Gerrard having removed himself from the race to become the new Gers boss, this should surely make the decision a simpler one for the owners.

A call has to be made as a matter of urgency now, to allow the new owners to hit the ground running and push up the table next term.
