Ancelotti’s Scottish connection emerges amid U-turn over Rangers appointment

Rangers’ managerial search looks to be finally coming to an end after months of searching.

The Gers’ last permanent manager was Philippe Clement, who was sacked back in February.

Barry Ferguson had taken the reins until the end of the season, but his appointment was only a temporary one.

Plenty of managers have been linked to the Rangers post, including Steven Gerrard.

Now, the 49ers have taken a step closer to making an appointment before the transfer window opens.

Ancelotti’s grandmother lived in Scotland amid immanent Rangers move

Davide Ancelotti has been linked to Rangers for weeks. The former Real Madrid assistant manager has had plenty of success under the guidance of his father, Carlo Ancelotti.

This has seen the Italian win numerous trophies around Europe, including the Champions League.

As a result, the coach was a wanted man this summer, with Como also in the race for Davide Ancelotti

However, it now appears Rangers will likely get their man with Andrew Cavenagh set to jet off to Spain to finalise a deal for Ancelotti, who’s done a U-turn on joining Brazil with his father after initially wanting to head to South America with him.

It will no doubt be a difficult adjustment for the Italian if he is appointed. However, the Daily Mail claims (28 May) that Ancelotti has Scottish links, which may have helped sway him to the Gers.

The report states that his maternal grandmother lived in Penicuik, near Edinburgh, having married a Scot.

Ancelotti’s family connection to Scotland may have strengthened the lure of Rangers after having multiple offers on the table this summer.

Ancelotti needs to be given time at Rangers

One of the most glaring things about the Italian’s appointment is that this will be his first job as manager.

As a result, Ancelotti is likely to get a lot wrong as he looks to break Celtic’s dominance in Scotland.

Therefore, the Ibrox faithful must be patient, and they cannot get on the manager’s back quickly.

Ancelotti has plenty of potential and could start a dynasty at the Gers if he is given time.

Hopefully, the 49ers will not lose patience with the Italian and give him multiple seasons to oversee the project.
