Rangers ‘excitement’ emerges with Russell Martin as Ibrox search continues
Rangers continue their search for a new permanent manager ahead of next season as Russell Martin remains on the radar at Ibrox.
The 39-year-old has emerged as a candidate at the Gers after Barry Ferguson ended his interim term with a 2-2 draw against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on 17 May.
Martin was dismissed as an option at Ibrox, but his name has reemerged in recent days as Kevin Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson look for the Light Blues’ next head coach.
The 39-year-old manager has been out of a job since being sacked at Southampton, and the supporters’ stance has been suggested with his potential arrival in the Bears’ dugout.

Martin appointment at Rangers wouldn’t excite fans
Martin wouldn’t get people excited if he’s appointed as the Gers’ next manager, Craig Moore says.
The ex-Light Blues defender doesn’t think the Scottish head coach is the right person to lead the Glaswegian outfit in the upcoming campaign.

Moore isn’t convinced the 39-year-old is the right for the top job at Ibrox after his tenure at Swansea City and Southampton.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (26 May), the former centre-back said: “I don’t think personally I would like to see him at Rangers. I just don’t think the jobs that he’s done have been at a level to come in and dictate and dominate at Rangers.
“I could be wrong. I don’t know him personally. I just don’t think it’d be a name that gets people excited.”
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises to appoint new manager at Ibrox soon
Andrew Cavenagh will hold a meeting with Martin as the American hopes to appoint a new manager at the Gers soon.
49ers Enterprises tasked Steinsson to hold interviews, as Davide Ancelotti has also been linked with a move to Ibrox after leaving Real Madrid.
Ferguson would’ve undoubtedly liked to continue at the Bears, but the US consortium seem to have different plans.
Rangers dismissed the interim boss as an option to be the next permanent manager quickly, suggesting they already had a preferred candidate in mind.
The Gers fans expected a new head coach to have been appointed by now, but there’s still uncertainty surrounding several aspects in G51.
Supporters have grown weary with the takeover and managerial sagas at the Glaswegian outfit dragging on, and the prospective new owners must make decisions soon.
Martin’s lack of success in the Premier League this season will leave fans concerned if the Bears hire him, although Ancelotti’s lack of experience as a first-team head coach is also discouraging.
