Rangers apologise as further Ibrox construction plans revealed

Rangers supporters are looking ahead to the takeover at Ibrox in the hope of better times ahead.

The Gers have had a torrid time of late, highlighted by the gulf between them and rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this term.

There have been plenty of vocal protests against the current owners at Ibrox, with supporters arguing that the current standards are not acceptable.

However, the 49ers are expected to complete their takeover in mid-June, which should provide more optimism in Glasgow.

Rangers announce further Ibrox construction plans

While development is key both on and off the pitch, building works at Ibrox have been a source of frustration for some supporters.

At the start of last season, the Light Blues were forced to play their opening fixtures at Hampden Park due to building works in the Copland Road Stand needing to be completed.

However, that is not all there is to be done, and now Rangers have announced that there will be further work on the stadium this summer, while apologising for previous inconvenience.

According to Rangers Review (28 May), an email was sent out to supporters which read: “We acknowledge the frustration and inconvenience you have experienced in the Copland Rear following the building works in summer 2024.

“We understand this has impacted your matchday experience, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption.

“As part of the Copland Stand development and to improve the matchday experience, it is intended that specialist glass barriers will replace the current metal barriers in front of row A in the Copland Rear next season.

“The precise timing of this installation is subject to local authority approvals and the fixture calendar. We will provide confirmation of the timings for this in due course.

“In addition, work has commenced on the installation of additional toilet facilities in the Copland Rear and are expected to be completed ahead of season 2025/26.”

Rangers holding out for improvement at Ibrox

Although news of the stadium being upgraded should be a positive, for many supporters, this announcement will surely be met with some scepticism after what happened last season.

While the club have acknowledged the difficulties that the over-running work caused and reassured supporters that this will be done in time for the new campaign starting, there are going to be some doubts among the fanbase.

However, once the 49ers have completed their takeover, those in the stands will surely be looking ahead to the future with more optimism and consequently, may be less sceptical.

Rangers need to catch up with their rivals next season.

Having the improvements in place for the arrival of the new owners should allow for things to be in a better place both on and off the pitch, aiding the development of the club as a whole.

One thing’s for sure, though, the 49ers have to make sure the works are completed in time, to ensure they don’t get off on the wrong foot with supporters at Rangers.
