Nils Koppen to jet out of Europe for transfer talks after Rangers manager developments

Rangers technical director Nils Koppen is set for an international trip as the search continues for a new head coach at Ibrox.

The Dutchman is in for a busy summer as the Gers undergo a period of change both on and off the pitch in G51.

This could see the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh finally complete their takeover of the Govan club, while a new face looks set to take a seat in the dugout.

With that in mind, Koppen has travelled outside of Europe for fresh talks as the need for a new head coach continues to loom for the Light Blues.

Koppen on scouting mission away from Rangers

There has still been no clarification on the new boss at Ibrox despite Barry Ferguson’s exit from his interim role well over a week ago.

This has seen Davide Ancelotti strongly linked with a Glasgow move after his departure from his role as assistant coach at Real Madrid.

It doesn’t appear that he will be joining his father, Carlo, with the Brazil national team, handing the Gers a perfect opportunity to land the Italian.

With that being said, attentions have now turned away from landing a new manager for Koppen, who is set to travel for a scouting mission in Argentina, according to the Daily Record (28 May).

The Light Blues chief is set to be joined in South America by Kevin Thelwell as the duo plan to play a part in Transferroom’s latest meeting on 3 and 4 June.

This will see incoming and outgoing transfers being discussed in a similar manner to the signing of Oscar Cortes at a previous meeting.

Koppen attentions turn away from Rangers manager talks

It could prove to be a bold call to attend talks over potential new signings from South America before bringing in a new head coach.

Although these sorts of date-driven signings can prove to be positive, in a similar way to the addition of Hamza Igamane in the summer.

With that being said, a manager still has to give the green light to these signings, and until that person is in place at Ibrox, it is brave to potentially target fresh faces.

Whether it be Ancelotti or Steven Gerrard moving in at G51, it will be interesting to see how they can integrate Koppen and Thelwell.
