McCoist instantly reacts as Brazil shares what he’s been told about next Rangers boss

Rangers are still in the process of appointing a new manager to take the reins at Ibrox, after Barry Ferguson’s exit.

The 49ers are yet to complete their takeover in Glasgow, but the new investors are keen to get a new manager in place in preparation for their arrival.

Andrew Cavanagh is set to fly into Europe this week to hold talks over the decision, in the hope that movement can be made.

Ally McCoist reacts to Rangers manager update

Although it had been suggested that Rangers were aiming to have a boss in place at the end of last week, the search is still ongoing.

Several names have been linked with a move to Glasgow, including Davide Ancelotti, Steven Gerrard and Russell Martin.

The three names differ in experience and styles of play, leaving a choice to be made about which direction the new owners want to go in.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (28 May, 9:48am), Alan Brazil shared what he had been told about the latest situation.

Brazil said: “The boys were just telling me, production have just told me there, that Ancelotti’s boy and Steven [Gerrard] are still even stevens who’s going to get it. So it’s not been decided yet.”

Ally McCoist urged the 49ers to get to work, though, as he replied: “No, it’s not been decided. The only thing I would say, it’s like anything else, you’re better getting somebody in quicker, sooner rather than later.

“Because they’ve got to get pre-season organised and then it’s the [Champions League] qualifiers. There’ll be qualifiers in July, so sooner the better for me.”

It has been reported that Cavanagh will meet with Ancelotti upon his arrival in Glasgow, suggesting there is going to be movement soon.

49ers can’t waste time at Rangers

McCoist is right in his call to action to the 49ers at Rangers: there is no time to waste.

The aim at Ibrox is to get back to the top of the Scottish Premiership and compete with Celtic once more, but they will already be well underway in preparations for next season, putting the Gers behind.

The decision does, of course, have to be well considered, but there is bound to be an element of risk too, and the owners have to be prepared to take a leap of faith.

If an appointment can be made now, it will allow work to start before the 49ers come in and can really kickstart proceedings.

With a meeting this week, the Light Blues have to choose whether they are going to look at a former boss or go for something new to highlight a new era.
