Guillem Balague minutes away from big Rangers manager update as BBC do their checks

Rangers are in the midst of hiring their next permanent manager, with Barry Ferguson leaving at the end of the season.

Ferguson was hired as the interim boss once Philippe Clement was sacked, but failed to impress in order to be handed the job on a permanent basis.

The 49ers Enterprises are set to finalise their takeover and they want a manager who can offer a fresh start at the club.

Guillem Balague teases new imminent manager update

Davide Ancelotti appears to be the frontrunner to be the next Gers manager as he has not even joined his father to be part of the Brazil coaching staff.

Carlo has had Davide as his assistant during his last four jobs, but confirmed that he’s speaking to a European club over becoming the new manager.

BBC journalist Guillem Balague, who is in the know given his time in Spain, will be issuing an update on Ancelotti’s future soon.

He admitted that the BBC were double-checking his story and it should be published any time on 28 May.

Balague wrote on X: “The latest on Rangers and Davide on BBC page in minutes. Love the fact at the BBC we check, double check and bring stories when it’s ready.”

Rangers appear to be closing in on Ancelotti

Ancelotti could elevate Rangers by leveraging his extensive coaching experience under his father at top clubs like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

At 35, his modern approach, blending tactical discipline with attacking flair, suits Gers’ ambitions to dominate Scottish football and compete in Europe.

His exposure to elite environments equips him to implement a high-pressing, possession-based system, maximising the potential of Rangers’ young talents and senior players like Jack Butland and James Tavernier.

Davide’s ability to foster squad unity and adapt strategies to counter stronger European sides could bridge the gap in continental competitions.

His appointment would signal ambition, inspiring confidence in fans and players and positioning Gers for sustained success at Ibrox.
